Sponsoring a child's education

There is no wonderful thing than helping a poor child's education. By offering few pennies to a beggar on the roadside one might feel satisfied of having helped a needy. The fact is, the pennies which you and others have offered may be just about sufficient for his meal or may be not and he will be seen begging again at the same place. I am not saying that one should not help by offering money to beggars. Instead the collection of few bucks you offer here and there in a month and few more added to it will make a significant amount that can be used in a better way to help the needy. I am talking about TRYING to eradicate the roots of the problem rather than cutting just a portion of the twig of the problem which will anyways grow again.

By helping a child's education throughout, you not only help the child learn education but you help the child to become independent and stand up on his/her own foot. Of course not everyone will be able to sponsor a child's education throughout. One can always support in whatever way he/she can. For example, one can sponsor for the child's books for that year or the child's school fees for that month or child's dress expenses for few months or child's living expenses for few months/a year or a child's weekly food expenses or a child's whole year education fee. As you can see there are a lot of ways a small but significant amount of monetary help can make a difference. If couple of friends join hands together, they can make a big difference in the life of one of millions of children who are in need of help. If not for monetary help, either one or group of friends can go to NGOs and teach in spare time or weekends or can tutor a student who cannot pay tuition fees. It need not be just children whom you can help. It could as well be your college mate or any friend who is in financial need for studies. These are just my opinions.

''Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile'' - Albert Einstein.

'No preaching without practicing'. I am sponsoring for a child's education from last year. I have chosen a 3rd standard child from a NGO and have decided to sponsor for the child's education every year till the child grows up and gets a job. I did some background research about the NGO before deciding to go ahead with the education sponsorship as I wanted to be damn sure that my help will actually reach the needy. At the end of the day, it does give me immense pleasure in making difference to a child's life and makes me feel socially responsible as well. I am also helping in other forms with whatever I can.

Ofcourse there are people other than children who are in need of help and there are other ways to help as well. I do not deny it.

For all the people who have been contemplating about social service or extending help to needy in any form, there is no better day than today to start with and make a difference. If this post can inspire even one, I will be more than happy.
